Roche’s RG7204: The Drug Against Skin Cancer

skin cancer Skin Cancer, like all we know, is a disease in which cancer (malignant) cells are found in the outer layers of your skin, and it is actually the most common form of human cancer. It is rapidly affecting persons at 65 years of age and every year, there are over 1 million cases happens which shows a public concern.

Although skin cancer is slow to develop, yet it can also leads you to death. When skin cancer develops, the process of invading the different organs of our body is uncontrollable. When malignant tumors exist, there’s no way our body could function well, thus resulting to death. But how one can prevent its rapid spread?

There are various options, and drugs have also been recognized for public use and hopefully, the new drug dubbed as Roche’s RG7204 will be one of the cure.

RG7204 is an experimental pill that attacks a gene mutation found in about half of melanoma patients, lived longer than those given dacarbazine, the standard treatment.

According to Wall Street Journal, RG7204 works by blocking a faulty protein produced in cancer cells, while leaving functioning proteins in noncancerous cells intact. Side effects, however, include rash, sensitivity to light, joint pain, hair loss, and fatigue.

Currently, there is no further study about how the drug will be use, and plans to plans to bring the drug to market will begin after the study results are presented.
