Ramnaresh Sarwan was eliminated from West Indies team last year (in 2010) after he played the tour of Sri Lanka, but now when world cup is around the corner, he has been recalled to play this year’s world cup.
His last ODI was at home vs South Africa in May/June 2010 and later he was dropped due to improper fitness status and unstable form in the domestic matches.
West Indies team will be playing with an All Rounder Fast Bowler Andre Russell, who will be (and rest of west indies team) under the captaincy of Darren Sammy.
Sammy was announced captain for the team after west indies board decided to drop Chris Gayle as a captain due to the fact that he had been out of form since long-time.
There are two sheer spinners in the team “Nikita Miller” and “Sulieman Benn”, and both are left-hand orthodox. Team include four fast and medium fast bolwersKemar, Russell, Ravi Rampaul and Roach. And impressive performance of Baugh in tour of Sri Lanka has made him selected for the world cup squad as well.
Sarwan has not played any Tests in time-span of more than a year, and he was not either offered a WICB contract last year. In the WICB one day tournament, his average runs score rate was 21.33 in three games with one 50 for Guyana but his team was unfortunately knocked out in the league stage.
Nevertheless, Sarwan has a great ODI record in India, where West Indies will play five out six of their group games. He has played fifteen matches there with batting average of 57.30 and five 50′s.
The West Indies Cricket Board’s chairman of selectors “Clyde Butts”, said: “The Selection Committee deliberated extensively over the selection of this most important World Cup squad and while choosing some players was straightforward we believe that we have come up with a good mix of players who will be able to do well in the Asian conditions,” he further said: “We have some of the most experienced ODI cricketers on the international stage along with the effervescence and freshness of some quality young players who we are confident can not only contribute to the team but win matches.”
So the World Cup 2011 squad of West Indies team goes like this: Darren Sammy (captain), Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle, Darren Bravo, RamnareshSarwan, Kieron Pollard, Devon Smith, Sulieman Benn, Carlton Baugh (wicket keeper), Nikita Miller, Andre Rusell, Ravi Rampaul, ShivnarineChanderpaul, Kemar Roach, AdrianBarath.
