For the first time in 24 years, England have won an Ashes series on Aussies soil. England completed a comprehensive victory on the 4th day of test match in MCG by an innings and 258 runs. It means that the English team will go into the final test match in Sydney with a decisive lead of 2-1 in the series which ultimately secured their first Ashes Down Under series since the 1986 – 87 tour.
England just needed four wickets to claim the victory but an injury to Australian Fast bowler Ryan Harris meant that the three lions just needed three wickets to secure the series and the writing was on the cards as Chris Tremlett removed the Australian Batsman Mitchell Johnson in the second over of the days play. English team was in a confident mood and athleticism of Kevin Pietersen almost sent Peter Siddle to the pavilion in the very next over.
Last Effort
Haddin and Siddle did put some resistance towards and scored a half century partnership off just 62 balls. Graeme Swann the man at the moment secured the much needed wicket of Siddle who was caught by Pietersen on the boundary with 40 runs to his name which also brought an end to 86 run partnership and Ben Hilfenhaus the last batsman for Australia also followed Siddle in Pavilion shortly after his departure and that confirmed that the Aussies has lost the match and with it the series as well.
Jubilations
After it there were scenes of Jubilations among the English Camp who surely will be welcomed back in England like heroes because they have almost ended the control of Australia on the world of Cricket by beating them on their home ground. English Coach Andy Flower remains humble and has told his players to work even harder in the upcoming one day international and T20 series.
