Duterte To Open Trade, Alliance With China, Russia

Duterte made the pronouncement of opening trade and alliance to China and Russia after slamming at the United States, before he leaves for Beijing and Moscow.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte expressed openness to establish trade and alliance with China and Russia.

In his speech at Malacañan on Monday, September 26, Duterte said that he is going to chart an independent foreign policy and “open alliances” with two superpower countries with historic rivalries with the United States of America (USA).

According to Duterte, he is set to leave for China to talk with Chinese President Xi Jinping to further strengthen trade relations between Philippines and China.

Duterte said, he is also willing to give the Chinese investors a 60-year contract in the country, which can be renewed for another 60 years.

But the chief executive clarified that the Philippines will not enter into a military alliance with China.
