No Plates Available Until Q2 Of 2017, Driver’s License Cards Pending
No plates, No Driver’s License Cards – The Office of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) expressed during a senate hearing on the agency’s proposed budget for 2017 that it would be impossible for car plates and driver’s license cards to be released this 2016.
According to a report by Philstar, it is not possible because of pending legal issues being faced by the government agency.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) have said that it can produce the license cards after an injunction is to be lifted by the court.
The report added that the LTO already talked with the APO Production Unit Inc. for the manufacturing of driver’s licenses and said that if an agreement has been signed, APO Production will start producing the licenses in six months.
With regards to the production of car plates, DOTr officials have said that it would take more time to resolve the car plates backlog. According to the report, it already hit about 6.6 million as of July.
DOTr officials have said that it is reviewing other available options, as well as emergency procurement to address the car plates backlog after the Commission on Audit, gave a notice disallowance on the contract of LTO with Knieriem B.V. Goes and Power Plates Development Concept Inc., which resulted in the shortage of car plates.
The report said that car plates would be available in the second quarter of 2017 if the said emergency procurement is approved.
But, the DOTr officials have clarified that the production of the car plates would be done in 2017 as there is no budget intended for this year in the national budget.
In recent reports, millions of vehicle owners, as well as people who applied for a driver’s license, have been complaining about the delayed release of plates and the license cards.
