Joma Sison said that representatives of the incoming president and consultants or leaders of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) may have a meeting to formulate  plans to be addressed in the peace talks slated in July.

Based upon the report of Inquirer.net,  Duterte met with NDFP representative Fidel Agcaoili last week and they discussed strategies for restoring peace conversations.

NDFP, which is the political arm of the CPP have been engaged in on-and-off negotiations with the Philippine government for the past 27 years, however, peace is elusive on both parties.

In a press briefing on Monday, May 23, 2016, Duterte announced that he is going to free all political prisoners without preconditions.

Asked about Duterte’s reported call to release the political detainees, Joma Sison said, “This is a highly significant and noble act of goodwill. It promotes the peace negotiations.”

“They are ready to meet in Oslo as early as June with the negotiators of President-elect Duterte,” he added.
