Mayor Duterte to Use the Philippine Flag as Symbol During Campaign

The most popular presidential candidate on social media, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte will use the country’s national symbol, the Philippine flag as his campaign symbol as revealed by PDP-Laban presidential candidate and party spokesperson Paola Alvarez.

Mayor Duterte Philippine Flag

Using the Philippine flag as the political symbol of Mayor Duterte is considered by most of his supporters in social media as a sign how the future president of the Philippines love our country. A netizen even posted on Facebook that the move of Mayor Duterte just show that his presidency has no color unlike the present administration that uses the color yellow.

There are some doubts among netizens when using the yellow symbol, particularly when President Aquino is more fond of using the yellow ribbon in various international gatherings instead of the Philippine flag.

Meanwhile, according to Paola Alvarez, Mayor Duterte’s use of the Philippine flag as their campaign symbol is only fitting as the tricolor represents the unity and aspirations of the Filipino people.

The 70-year-old Mayor Duterte who is seen by most netizens as the future president of the Philippins, wants to be seen with the national colors in his campaign sorties, rallies and motorcades.

The PDP-Laban spokesperson stated: “We believe the flag should be the symbol of national unity even as we Filipinos come from different ethnic, social and cultural backgrounds, speak different languages, and hold different religious beliefs,” Alvarez explained.

“As the Philippine flag has evolved through arduous struggle against foreign rule and our people’s yearning for independence and freedom, we should display it proudly,” she said.
