The controversial but popular mayor of Davao City, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is definitely running for President in the May 2016 national elections according to former Butuan City Representative Charito Plaza. According to the appointed vice president for PDP-Laban for Mindanao, Charito Plaza, Mayor Duterte has not yet declared his candidacy because it might be too early.
The PDP-Laban official from Mindanao noted that while others who declared too early their plans, the moved was considered as abuse and inappropriate to use their office and peoples’ money for their premature campaigning. Mayor Duterte is still unsure whether to run or not but his supporters kept on urging him even spending their hard-earned money and not the peoples’ money.
Rep. Charito Plaza also revealed that supporters of Mayor Duterte in Luzon and Metro Manial started their simultaneous nationwide caravan and are set to pass the Visayas and Mindanao region via the nautical highway and will end in Davao City on August 28, 2015.
In the August 28 event, supporters of Mayor Duterte will meet in Davao City to show and express their support for the mayor’s presidential candidacy, including the people’s plea for him to run for the presidency.
The caravan according to the PDP-Laban official spend their own money on the said activities only to show massive civilian support for Mayor Duterte to run for President without single government funds and machinery spent, unlike the other aspiring presidential candidates.
Mayor Duterte himself even called his supporters “Dutertistas,” some of whom will stage a big rally in Cagayan de Oro City this week to urge him to run for president.
