Ramadan Holiday: July 17, 2015 Declared A Regular Holiday

The Philippine national government through Malacanang Palace declared Friday, July 17, 2015 as a regular holiday throughout the country, as Pres. Aquino signed Proclamation No. 1070. The declaration of July 17 as a regular holiday was announced through the Official Gazette of the Republic of the Philippines.

The July 17, 2015 holiday this coming Friday was declared by the national government in celebration of Eid’l Fitr, the Feast of Ramadan. The observance seeks to encourage the Filipino nation to join our Muslim brothers and sisters in peace and harmony in celebati of Eid’l Fitr, which marked the end of the Holy month of Ramadan as observed by millions of Muslim believers across the world.

The declaration of Friday, July 17 Holiday is based upon Republic Act No. 9177, declaring Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadhan) as a regular holiday throughout the country.

The Eid’l Fitr celebration is considered as one of the most important dates in the Hegira calendar (Muslim calendar) as it marked the end of fasting for all Muslims. Believers of the Islamic faith celebrate the Eid’l Fitr for three days after the end of the month of fasting, Ramadan.

The proclamation of the Eid’l Fitr holiday for the year 2015 was signed by no less than the President of the Republic of the Philippines, President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III.
