Chiz Escudero to Run for President as Independent Candidate

Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero revealed during an interview that if ever he decides to run for President of the Republic of the Philippines, he will do so without the help of any party, because he prefers to remain independent. The Senator has been an independent candidate since the year 2009.

The last time that the 45-year-old lawmaker was involved in a party was in the year 2009 when he left the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC). According to the senator, right now he has not received any former offers to join any political party as its candidate for president or vice president.

The senator also clarified to the media that he will not be joining the administration’s Liberal Party but noted that he will listen to what Pres. Aquino has to say as a political leader and as a friend.

Although the senator is not certain about his plan to pursue a higher office in the upcoming 2016 election, he will listen whatever his friends from different political parties about their say on his plans and could use these inputs to weigh his options for the elections.

Sen. Escudero also confirmed that he will be meeting with the President in the coming days, but there is no date has been set yet. The senator was one of those political leaders who helped Pres. Aquino in his campaign in 2010, when he packaged alongside Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay, who was later elected as Vice President of the Philippines.

The Senator also noted that there is no disadvantage for candidates running as independents based on the results of previous elections.
