The Philippines tallied a total of six gold medals in the 2015 Southeast Asian Games hosted by Singapore, the last gold medals that the Philippines got was courtesy of Judoka’s Kiyomi Watanabe who won the gold on Sunday night. Despite the sixth gold medal haul of the country, the Philippines still ranked seventh in team standing.
During the Judoka event, the Filipino player defeated Thailand’s Orapin Senatham with an ippon in the 3:36 mark, emerging in first place of the women’s 57-63kg contest which was held inside the Expo Hall in Singapore.
Aside from the gold medal for the Philippines on Sunday, the Fencing team bagged back-to-back silver medals in the men’s foil and women’s team epee, bringing the country’s silver medal haul to eight. The Women’s team were composed of Hanniel Abella, Anna Gabriella Estimada, Harlene Raguin and Keren Pangilinan defeated Singapore in the semis but failed to beat Thailand, 45-28, in the gold medal finals.
Philippines men’s team composed of Wilfred Curioso, Brennan Louise, Nathaniel Perez and Emerzon Segui defeated Thailand in the semis but failed against Singapore in the finals.
The other Filipino medal winners of the Sunday’s edition of the SEA Games, who added three bronze medals for the country were Jasmine Alkhaldi in women’s 50 meter butterfly, Roxanne Yu in women’s 200m backstroke, and Joshua Hall in the men’s 100m breaststroke.
