According to Gail Banawis, she received a call from a Pacquiao emissary telling her that she got the job to sing the national anthem after she had previously tried out for the honor but was not chosen. The American-based singer also bared that it was her dream to sing in one of Pacquiao’s fights.

Gail Banawis stated that she tried out last year, but the contract was already given to someone else. She was quoted as saying “I tried out last year, pero the contract was given to someone else. Pero he still remembered me so he told me to join this fight instead,” Banawis said while Pacquiao personally introduced her to the members of the World Chorale.

The American-based singer will join the group of pastors, also known as Word Chorale which also sang the Lupang Hinirang before Pacquiao’s WBO Welterweight title defense against Chris Algieri last November in Macau.

One of the member of the nine-man Word Chorale, Rex Neri, revealed during an interview with Spin.ph that the group only come together twice for practice and the inclusion of Gail Banawis will surely provide the needed lift to their performance.
