Comelec Still Awaits Congress To Move SK Elections To 2016

The Commission on Election announced that they will still be waiting ’til the end of the year before finalizing the preparations for SK elections next year.

According to Sixto Brilliante Jr, Comelec chairman, they will be giving the Congress it’e enough time to decide whether to move or not the SK elections which was originally set on February 21, 2015. They will wait for act on petition from the Congress to synchronize the SK elections with the 2016 national elections.

“Our official position is still to postpone the SK elections,” he said.

However, if the Congress will decide to push through the elections in about December of January span of time, he still assures people that Comelec can still cope up with the preparations of SK elections. According to him, the election body can still be able to do and complete the necessary preparations needed for the SK elections. Perhaps, it is said that the SK elections will be a manual election.

Considering that fact, he is sure and confident that they can do the necessary preparations in just a span of one or two months. This is based on Manila Bulletin.

The SK election was originally cancelled last year. It was said that this will happen next year on February. It is based on the recommendation of the Congress.

Even if things are not sure on the first place, the Comelec still resumed week-long nationwide registration for SK voters. Perhaps, SK elections is not yet sure if it will push through next year or just will happen on the 2016 national elections. What people need to do now is just to wait for its confirmation.
