LGU’s Declared Suspension of Classes on July 14 Due to Bagyong Glenda

Local Government Units (LGU’s) in the areas directly hit or affected by tropical storm Glenda (Bagyong Glenda) announced class suspensions (walang pasok) on Monday, July 14, 2014 due to the weather disturbance that may affect areas of Bicol Region and Quezon Province.

Automatic Suspension Guidelines

Metro Manila will be affected by the tropical storm, so the the LGU in Manila also suspended the calsses of preschools and elementary both public and private institutions. According to the latest weather bulletin of PAGASA noted that Storm Signal No. 2 will affect Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, and Sorsogon.

Areas under Signal No. 2 will experience 61 to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) of winds in at least 24 hours. Signal No. 1 on the other hand, has been hoisted in Metro Manila, Masbate, Burias Island, Ticao Island, Marinduque, Polilio Island, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan, Zambales, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Southern Aurora, and Northern Samar.

Meanwhile listed below are the areas where LGU’s declared Suspension of Classes:

  • Manila – preschool to elementary (public and private)
  • Camarines Sur – preschool to high school (public and private)
  • Albay – all levels (public and private)

The Department of Education (DepEd) also made an announcement and reminded the public on the rules for the automatic suspension of classes in areas where storm warning signals are hoisted in any parts of the country. All institutions both private and public should abide with the rules of suspension during tropical storms in the Philippines.

DepEd also tweeted and posted a link of the Rules on the Cancellation or Suspension of Classes issued by the Office of the President through Executive Order No. 66 series of 2012, published by the national government on its official website.
