The Philippine Senate approved and passed a total of four landmark bills and two measures declaring new holidays, the two holidays includes the Jesse Robredo day and the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) Centennial Holiday.
The approval of the Senate was made during the third and final reading of the four bills which according to the Upper House of Congress, the bills aims to improve public health, law enforcement, competitiveness in the banking sector and consumer protection.
In a report posted by PhilStar, the Philippine Senate approved House Joint Resolution No. 12 declaring July 27, 2014 as a special non-working holiday to commemorate the 100th founding anniversary of one of the country’s most popular religious organization, the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC).
The Senate Bill No. 1281 declaring August 18 as “Jesse Robredo Day,” a special working holiday commemorating the former DILG Chief and one of the Philippines’ most popular public servant, was passed on the third and final reading in the Upper Chamber.
Aside from the two measures declaring a special working holiday, the Senate also approved Senate Bill No. 27 or the “Picture Based Health Warning Law,” the Senate Bill No. 2273, Senate Bill No. 2159 which allows 100% foreign ownership of domestic banks, and the Senate Bill No. 2211 or the so-called “Lemon Law.”
