Adam Silver Officially Replaces David Stern as NBA Commissoner

NBA now has its fifth commissioner in its 68-year history as Adam Silver officially took over the headship from outgoing David Stern on Saturday (Sunday PH time).

The news was confirmed through an Instagram post of the league, showing Silver holding a ball shaking hands with the Stern with a caption of ”It’s official: Adam Silver succeeds David Stern as NBA Commissioner”.

Stern, who announced his retirement, would be on October 25, 2012, retired just this year after three decades in the league, p(–foul word(s) removed–)ing the torch to the guy who is a unanimous choice among the team owners as replacement for the longest-serving commissioner.

”It is a source of great satisfaction to me that the NBA will now be led by Commissioner Adam Silver, for whom I have tremendous admiration, respect and expectations as he and his experienced and dedicated team take the NBA to successes that were unimaginable even a short while ago,” Stern wrote Friday in a thank you email to media members. Silver had been Stern’s (–foul word(s) removed–)istant in 1992, then he went on to become NBA Chief of Staff before ran the NBA Entertainment for ten years and then became a deputy commissioner in 2006.

With Silver leaving the Deputy Commissioner position, executive Mark Tatum was appointed to take charge.

Other NBA commissioners in the past are Maurice Podoloff (1946–1963), Walter Kennedy (1963–1975) and Larry O’Brien (1975–1984).
