Polar Vortex or a whirlpool of frigid, dense air descended on Monday (US Time) into the United States of America, pummeling some parts of the American states with dangerous cold that could probably break decades-old records with wind chill.
ABC News reported that the Polar Vortex warning stretch from Montana to Alabama, a big chunk of the MidWest United States experienced the subzero temperatures that moves behind another winter wallop.
Traveling in the United States Midwest territories are now dangerous because there are more than a foot of snow and high winds affecting major cities in the US. Local officials closed schools in the cities of Chicago, St. Louis and Milwaukee and warned their residents to stay indoors and avoid the frigid cold together.
According to the United States weather bureau the forecast is extreme: 32 below zero in Fargo, N.D.; minus 21 in Madison, Wis.; and 15 below zero in Minneapolis, Indianapolis and Chicago. Wind chills, could drop into the minus 50s and 60s.
The US National Weather Service warned that Frostbite and hypothermia can set in quickly at 15 to 30 below zero temperatures.
Meanwhile Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard upgraded the city’s travel emergency level to “Red,” making it illegal for anyone to drive except for emergencies or seeking shelter. The last time that the city issued such warning was during the 1978 blizzard.
For several Midwestern states, the bitter cold was adding to problems caused by a weekend snow storm. The weather bureau also confirmed to the media that the Chicago O’Hare International Airport snowfall has reached more than 11 inches thick as of 6:00 PM on Sunday (ET).
