The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) announced that the distribution of relief goods by the government to those affected by super typhoon Yoland will be until December 2013 only as reported by DZMM.
According DZMM quoting DSWD Secretary Dinky Soliman, the distribution will end this December because the agency wanted to help in the rebuilding effort of the victims so that they can stand on their own feet.
Sec. Dinky Soliman was quoted as saying, “From being provided with relief goods, gusto naman namin silang tulungang magkaroon ng trabaho para mabili na nila ang mga kailangan nila na baka this time ay hindi na pagkain.” Soliman stated.
DSWD clarified however, that not all of the distribution of relief goods will stop they are still given the necessary foods and supplies to those who are not employed and don’t have a source of income.
Netizens and survivors of super typhoon Yolanda were dismayed with the announcement to stop the distribution of relief goods. Some of them aired their sentiments through various social networking sites and blogs.
As of posting time, there are 1.5 million food packs that were already distributed by DSWD and according to the agency’s data there are places that have received five times their relief goods distributed in various parts of Visayas. DSWD also cited that they have already implemented the cash for work program for the super typhoon victims.
