South Koreans Raised P103 Million through KBS for Typhoon Yolanda Victims

The people of South Korea have raised donations for the victims of super typhoon Yolanda that hits the Philippines last week through a KBS’ special televised fund-raising relief efforts.

According to KBS who have already raised 2.5 billion won (around P103 million), the funds raised on Thursday’s broadcast event will go to the Philippine Red Cross, through the South Korean Red Cross. The goal of the Red Cross in South Korea is to raise 10 billion won (around P410 million) by December.

Aside from KBS, another broadcast network MBC has also staged a special broadcast fundraising event for the victims of Yolanda. The South Korean government have already pledged $5 million in aid for Philippine relief efforts.

World-renowned companies based in South Korea such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Hyundai Industries and Hyundai Kia Automative Group have already pledged million of dollars for the relief operations in the Philippines.

One of the world’s leading airline company, Asiana Airlines have also help in the relief efforts of multinational corporations based in South Korea. Asiana Airlines send some 30,000 ramen and noodle packs, 20,000 water bottles and 1,000 airline blankets for the “Yolanda” victims.

Korean companies such as Hite Jinro and K-Water are sending hundreds of thousands of bottled water. The National (–foul word(s) removed–)embly of South Korea have p(–foul word(s) removed–)ed a resolution expressing sympathy with the victims of the typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines and calling for support of the Korean for relief efforts.
