Bantayan Island is one of the most affected areas hit by Super Typhoon Yolanda last weekend. The island which is considered as the “Egg Basket of the Visayas” with more than 1.1 million egg productions distributed in various parts of Visayas and Mindanao suffered with an estimated of more than 90% total damage.
The three municipalities comprising the island of Bantayan and it’s neighboring islets are currently in need of immediate relief goods particularly, foods, water, clothing, shelters and financial or in-kind aid for the recovery of the thousands of affected families.
Right now communications are restored in Bantayan Island based upon the announcement made by the Philippines largest cellular networks, Smart, Globe and Sun cellular have already restored the signals in Bantayan island.
The electricity of Bantayan island through their electric cooperative, BANELCO, estimates that it will took two months to restore the power of the entire islands due the extent of the damage brought about by Super Typhoon Yolanda.
