The Philippines largest solar power plant will be built in the country with BWST, a unit of Korean manufacturer Yu Jin Optical Electronics Inc. The upcoming solar project will be located in Pampanga.
According to the Korean company, the solar power plant will have a capacity of 150 MW and will require and investment of US$500 million. The plant’s capacity will be increased gradually according to Sund Ho Shin, BWST planning director.
The Philippines largest solar power plant will be built in phases, the first phase will be having an initial capacity of 50 MW. The company Yu Jin Optical Electronics is best known in Asia as makers of winding coils, device pick up coils and other electronic parts. Yu Jin Optical Electronics facility in the Philippines is located in Cavite Province, south of Metro Manila.
Right now the only operational solar power plant in the Philippines is the CEPALCO Cagayan de Oro Photovoltaic Power Plant which has a capacity of 1.1 MW. The current largest solar power plants that is under construction in the Philippines is the Surallah Photovoltaic Power Plant in South Cotabato.
The Surallah Photovoltaic Power Plant has a capacity of 5MW and started its construction last September 2013 with an estimated date of completion on January 2014. Aside from CEPALCO and Suralla, there are other solar power plants that are already approved by the Philippines government, the Ormoc Photovoltaic Power Plant with a capacity of 30MW and the Badoc-Vintar Photovoltaic Power Plant which has a capacity of 20MW.
