A landmark bill that was enacted into a law, the Batas Kasambahay or the Domestic Workers Act is expected to be release on May 10, 2013. The p(–foul word(s) removed–)age of the Republic Act No. 10361 has given house helpers the chance to (–foul word(s) removed–)ert their right to better welfare and treatment.
The law was signed by the President on January, while its implementing rules and regulations were approved on April 25, 2013. However, it would still be difficult for helpers to enjoy the full benefits of the law as most of them don’t have proper papers.
With the p(–foul word(s) removed–)age of the Kasambahay Law, the new law requires employers to have their helpers avail of social welfare benefits like the Social Security System and Philhealth.
The law also states that helpers must have a minimum monthly wage from P1,500 in provinces and P2,500 in cities. It may even go as high as P5,000 depending on the person’s training and experience. Giving helpers proper contracts is also part of the law.
