The Philippine National Football Team, Philippine Azkals moved two-steps higher in the latest FIFA world rankings at 143 from the March 2013 ranking at 145. The team was able to duplicate the all-time highest-ranking of the Philippine team.
The Philippines previously held the 143rd spot during the November 2012 FIFA Rankings. In the latest ranking results released today, April 11, 2013, the Philippines climbed to spots but still way behind regional powerhouse Vietnam and Thailand.
The current ranking of the Azkals was due to their impressive performance in the recently concluded conquest as the top team in the Group E matches of the AFC Challenge Cup 2014 Qualifying Round.
The Philippines is currently ranked third in Southeast Asia, the regional rankings is now dominated by Vietnam at 132nd overall followed by Thailand at 140th worldwide.
The current FIFA world rankings is once again dominated by World Cup titlist Spain at the number 1 spot followed by Germany, Argentina, Croatia and Portugal.
