Coins Buried for Three Decades at the Field in Jersey Unearthed

A significant found of rare coins which dates back from Julius Caesar’s reign was uncovered. Reg Mead and Richard Miles, both metal detector enthusiasts discovered the Iron age coins, after searching for decades after hearing news that a farmer had unearthed the valuable coin.

They eventually struck gold and uncovered between 30,000 and 50,000 coins, which date from the 1st Century BC and have lain buried for 2,000 years.

The coins that were unearthed has an estimated value of £10 Million, one of the largest hoard ever unearthed. The Roman and Celtic silver and gold coins were entombed under a hedge in a large mound of clay, weighing three quarters of a ton and measuring 140 x 80 x 20cm.

The location of the findings were kept secret to protect the identity of the place.
