Thia Megia or Maria Aragon? Or both?
Who would be singing for the ‘next fight’ of the pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao?
Singing the national anthem for boxing fights like those of the bout for Manny Pacquiao is always a privilege for a singer and performer, some of the big names who were able to sing the anthem during Pacquiao’s big fights were Sarah Geronimo, Lani Misalucha, International Singing sensation Charice, Regine Velasquez, Kyla, Ciarah Sotto and Karylle. And now, it seemed that it’s either Thia Megia or Maria Aragon is next in line or it could be both of them.
According to reports published in abs-cbnnews.com, which was also based from Yahoo Philippines, it was reported that Megia would be singing the United States National anthem “Star Bangled Banner” while Aragon would be singing the Philippines National Anthem.
Weeks had p(–foul word(s) removed–)ed when the news came out and a confirmation from the camp of Maria Aragon that she would be singing the National Anthem for the Pacquiao-Marquez third face-off to be held this coming November 12. Earlier reports had said that Aragon had visited the National Historical Institute in order to listen to the original rendition of the anthem.
Meanwhile, reports came also that Pacquiao is going to tap “American Idol” Season 10 Finalist in the person of Thia Megia to sing the anthem for his ‘next fight’, however, it was not clarified if when would be this ‘next fight’, is it the fight against Juan Manuel Marquez or the next fight after? Let’s just wait and see.
To recall, both Megia and Aragon had been making buzz in the international music scene as they were both known in the field of singing and performing. Aragon had been a Youtube sensation as she had featured her own rendition to the popular hit of Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way”.
The said rendition became her way to stardom as she was invited to perform with Lady Gaga in her concert in Canada. Furthermore, she had her appearance at the Ellen DeGeneres show as well as in Good Morning America and she also sang a duet with the Canadian Prime Minister. She also performed in the 2011 Canada Day and the mentioned event was attended by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
At present, Aragon is in the Philippines as she was set to record and to release her album.
As to Thia Megia, she became well-known not just to the Filipino fans but to American’s after she became part of the Top 10 finalist of the prestigious American Idol.
Currently, Megia is in the Philippines together with the AI finalists for their 2-night show to be held at the Araneta Coliseum this September 20 and 21.
