“Own Your Power” can always be heard from the mouth of the all-known talk host, philanthropist, producer and OWN CEO Oprah Winfrey. For years, Oprah uses this slogan, but now she was allegedly accused of stealing the motto from the CEO of OYP Communications INC. named Simone Kelly-Brown.
According to the Simone, CEO of OYP Communications, the slogan was hers, and they are not happy that Oprah has been using it for years.
Entertainment Weekly reported that it was Simone’s company who was the original creator of the acronym OYP, and the notion that people can ‘live their best life’, just believing that ‘anything they want in life is attainable.’
But Oprah’s production studio Harpo ignored the allegation that they are using the OYP’s trademark stating that they are innocent about the allegations because they has not been served and they have no information about it.
OYP Communications is looking forward for damages to reverse what Winfrey and Harpo denoted, as what they filed on court papers last Thursday on New Jersey.
As what written in the lawsuit, the trademark infringement started with the headline “Own Your Power” of October 2010 Oprah O’s Magazine, but Simone said that it happened when Oprah and her threw the same “Own Your Power” events, days apart but in the same city.
Between of the two famous women, we don’t know who really says the truth, and to think of the maxim they both want to express, “nothing is so useless for its general effect on humanity.”
