The 2011 Deutsche Borse Photography Prize goes to Jim Goldberg because of his exhibition Open See, which was presented in London during a Photographers’ Gallery, held last year.

The exhibition Open See gained the prestigious award because according to Brett Rogers of the Photographers’ Gallery, it was “timely and inventive approach to documentary practice.”

Goldberg is a photographer from the United States. He was able to document what the refugees and immigrants have been through while they travelled from nations that were known to be battle-damaged just to make new lives in the country of Europe.

Working under the agency of Magnum Photos, the US photographer had received a cash award on Tuesday with an amount of £30,000.

The Deutsche Borse Photography Prize is given yearly to be able to recognize photographers who were known to present the best exhibition in Europe.

On the other hand, £3,000 cash awards were also given to the nominated photographers who were identified to be Thomas Demand, Roe Ethridge and Elad L(–foul word(s) removed–)ry. Their works will also be displayed in the Photographers’ Gallery located in London until May 1.

Today, the Photographers’ Gallery is being accommodated in at the Ambika P3 art space that is close to Regent’s Park whereas its central London buildings are under renovation.

According to Rogers, “the jury felt that any one of the four nominees could have been the winner.”
