Thousands of residents living around the edge of Laguna de Bay, this includes the residents of Barangay Putatan in the city of Muntinlupa.
Noli de Castro of ABS-CBN News shows in his TV program the plight of the people of Barangay Putatan that their houses were gradually sinking.
According to Director Renato Solidum Jr., director of the Philippine Institute of ‘Volcanology and Seismology’, the soil around the perimeter of the lake is very soft.
“Those on the side of the lake and to the coastal areas near the lake the land were covered by the sand and mud. It’s often swamped and the advent of powerful earthquake here is highly at risk for possible strong shaking and turning it to ‘liquefaction’”, said Solidum
The side of the lake to our left was flooded during Ondoy, and if happen this time not only flood will cause the trouble but what is being afraid now is liquefaction when the strong earthquake hit and of course the powerful tremor, said Solidum
Dangerous for all the houses especially in squatter’s area of Arienda.
Same situations of the families living in Manila Bay area particularly in Baseco Compound in Tondo.
Thickly populated houses made of light wooden materials which is easily downtrodden by the strong earthquake.
Solidum said, “The course to watch over all sandy coastal areas, were the strong tremor, liquefaction and tsunami. We must have a plan of what to do if in case tragedy will happen.
One thing to fear also is the possibility of sinking the pier or destruction thereof, which is very important factor for helping after the possible tragedy.
Solidum also considered other areas in metro Manila where the ‘fault line” p(–foul word(s) removed–) through.
Very cumbersome, to subdivision situated in the surface of the ‘fault line.
They have all the right to know if their home and life is laid in danger, said the ABS-CBN reporter – Noli de Castro.
