The 65-year-old controversial former ‘Military Chief’ and ‘Energy Secretary’ Angelo T. Reyes committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest Tuesday.
According to Supt. Alfredo M. Calama-an, Eastern Police District Operations and Plans Divisions chief said Reyes visited in the grave of his mother together with his 2 sons, a driver and bodyguard at Loyola Mem. Park in Marikina City where he committed suicide using .45 caliber pistol shooting himself in the chest which pierced his heart.
Reyes was rushed to the Quirino Hospital in Quezon City at around 7:45a.m. for recovery. About 45 minutes the doctors tried to revive Reyes before declaring died at around 8:30 Tuesday morning.
The medical report said that a bullet wound in his heart caused his untimely death.
According to investigation Reyes asked his sons to leave as well as his driver and bodyguard for a quite time. After a couple of seconds they heard a gunshot. Immediately they found Reyes bloody falling in the ground.
According to the report, before Reyes suicide he was noticed reading a book titled “Donald Trump’s: The Art of the Deal”.
As we remembered, in 1999-2001 Reyes became AFP chief of staff. After Reyes retirement in the military service in March 1, 2001, President Gloria Arroyo appointed him as Defense Secretary.
During the “People Power 2” he played a very significant role ousting President Joseph Estrada and catapulting Gloria Arroyo in replace to Estrada.
“A very well service rendered Reyes in the country in the halls of government as well as in uniform. During a critical moment of the country when the people are seeking for a fundamental reform of government, Reyes performance is beyond measure” Arroyo said.
“Courage and patriotic service” condoled Arroyo to the family Reyes.
“We join our mourning together with the family and friends and colleagues of former Secretary Angelo Reyes in his painful p(–foul word(s) removed–)ing” Arroyo said.
Reyes graduated Cl(–foul word(s) removed–) 1966 in the Philippine Military Academy (PMA). He married to his wife Teresita P. Reyes who gave him 5 sons, Pablo, Angelito, Marc, Carlo and Judd.
