Maine Mendoza Marks 8th Showbiz Anniversary

MAINE MENDOZA – Actress-host Maine Mendoza took to social media to mark her 8th anniversary in show business.

Nicomaine Dei Capili Mendoza a.k.a. Maine Mendoza is a Filipina actress, model, and TV personality. Maine rose to prominence after her Dubsmash videos went viral, landing her a role as Yaya Dub in the country’s longest-running noontime show, “Eat Bulaga.”

She later landed roles in various movies and TV series, one of which helped her win Best Supporting Actress at the 41st Metro Manila Film Festival. Mendoza was paired with fellow host Alden Richards while playing Yaya Dub. The actors’ love team was dubbed AlDub at the time, a combination of their names. The onscreen pairing became extremely famous in 2015, resulting in both actors collaborating on various projects and advertising.

Yesterday, July 4 marks Maine Mendoza’s eighth anniversary in the entertainment business, where she earned her nickname, Yaya Dub. Yaya Dub, whose full name is Divina Ursula Bokbokaba Smash, is Lola Nidora’s (Wally Bayola) personal assistant, as introduced in the sub-segment “Problem Solving.”

“Problem Solving” was a segment on Eat Bulaga called “Juan For All, All For Juan.” The name Yaya Dub is a pun on the popular app Dubsmash. Yaya Dub’s voice was not heard by the audience during her first few appearances. Instead, she only does lip-sync songs and popular movie lines, similar to what others do in Dubsmash.

She was shown getting out of a limousine in her first episode as Yaya Dub. She wore her pink apron and helped Lola Nidora out of her car.

On social media, Maine Mendoza shared a heartwarming post about the beginning of her career. On her Instagram Stories, she reposted a clip showing her first appearance in “Eat Bulaga.”

“How time flies,” the Kapuso star captioned the video. “So many things to be grateful for.”
