The Philippine Azkals will be facing the Cambodian National Football Team on September 5, 2012, as part of their preparations in the upcoming AFF Suzuki Cup Championship.
The Philippines was considered by Southeast Asian Teams as one of the title contender in the tournament featuring the best teams in Southeast Asia. The Philippines is the third highest-ranked team in the region only behind powerhouse Thailand and Vietnam according to the latest FIFA World Rankings.
The Philippine Azkals vs. Cambodia FIFA International Friendly match will be shown live on Studio 23 at 6:30 PM with a kick-off at around 7:00 PM (PST) on Wednesday.
The Philippine Azkals vs. Cambodia match will be held in Phnom Pehn, the capital city of Cambodia.
Cambodia and the Philippines have met before during the 2010 Suzuki Cup Qualifiers in Laos which ended in a goal-less draw and saw the Philippines qualified for the Suzuki Cup while Cambodia ended it’s journey for a chance to participate.
The team will be under new supervision of Coach Hok Sochetra, a former Cambodian National Football mainstay.
The Cambodian Royal Khmers is now preparing for the 2012 Suzuki Cup qualifying round and they will have to battle against Timor Leste, Brunei, Laos and Myanmar for a chance to reach the group stage where the Philippines and the rest of the top teams in Southeast Asia were waiting.
According to the latest data from FIFA, the Philippine Team have a total records of 2 wins 1 loss and 2 draws since march 2012 while the Cambodians have a record of 1 win and 3 lossess.
The Royal Khmers will probably fielded one of their youngest goalkeeper, Sou Yaty. Some of the most familiar players playing for Cambodia were forwards Khim Borey, midfielders Teab Vathanak and Sun Sopanha with the support of veteran defenders Tieng Tiny and Lay Raksmey.
