Yiv Cortez Thanks Angel Locsin as Her Message to Robin Padilla Sparks Buzz
ANGEL LOCSIN – Actress Angel Locsin’s latest social media post has gained another supporter, with Team Payaman member Yiv Cortez thanking the actress for speaking out on controversial political issues.
Social media personality Yiv Cortez of Team Payaman expressed gratitude to actress Angel Locsin after the latter spoke out on social media and called out Sen. Robin Padilla over several of his political positions and recent statements.
Angel broke her social media hiatus in the early hours of Tuesday, July 16, to respond to a Manila Bulletin report about Padilla referring to her as a “communist” while questioning Atty. Jeremy Lotoc during the impeachment trial on Tuesday, July 14.
During the proceedings, Padilla asked Lotoc whether he had “basic knowledge” of the Islamic faith after discussions touched on “Operation Romonov.”
Operation Romonov has been described as an alleged threat against the family of Vice President Sara Duterte, which was reportedly cited as the basis for VP Sara’s “grave threat” against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Marcos, and Leyte 1st District Rep. and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
In her post, Angel recalled stories that Padilla had shared with her about his past, including the period when he allegedly joined the armed struggle in the mountains for what he believed was the country’s cause.
“Nung mga panahong magkasama tayo, madalas mong ikwento yung panahon na namundok ka at nag-armas para ipaglaban ang bayan. Sabi mo pa nga, dinadalaw ka ng ex mo sa bundok,” said Angel.
“Sa statement mo na to, kahit papaano, natuwa akong makita ulit yung dating Robin Padilla na nakilala ko. At least, honest ka ngayon, Kuya.”
However, the actress directly questioned the senator over his silence when she was allegedly subjected to red-tagging despite supposedly knowing that the accusations against her were untrue.
“Ang tanong ko lang, nasaan ka nung panahong nirered-tag ako kahit alam mong hindi totoo? Actually, kasama mo pa nga at kachikahan yung mga nangre-red-tag,” the actress said.
Angel also pointed out that many Filipinos, particularly members of the Muslim community, supported Padilla because they expected him to strongly defend their interests and rights. She admitted being disappointed because she believes he appears to be defending the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) founder Apollo Quiboloy, who is facing multiple cases.
“Isa sa mga pinakamalaking dahilan kung bakit ka binoto ng maraming Pilipino ay dahil inasahan nilang magiging matapang kang boses para sa mga kapatid nating Muslim. Pero bakit parang mas ipinaglalaban mo pa si Quiboloy? Naniniwala ka ba talaga na siya ang ‘appointed son of God’?” she said.
The actress also discussed the West Philippine Sea issue and the Philippines’ relationship with China, saying Padilla’s stance saddened her because it did not reflect the patriotic person she once admired.
“Isa ka sa pinaka-makabayang taong nakilala. Ikaw si Andres Bonifacio. Kaya nakakalungkot pag nakakabasa ako ng stand mo pagdating sa China. Hindi ito ang Robin Padilla na nakilala at hinangaan ko.”
“Kahit paano, alam kong halos pareho tayong landas na dinaanan. Galing sa hirap, nagtrababo ng maaga, tinangkilik at nakapagpasaya ng mga tao. Ang utang na loob natin ay sa ating diyos at sa lahat ng Pilipino —hindi lamang sa isang tao,” she said.
She ended her message with a direct appeal to the senator.
“Tama na, Kuya. Gising na. Hindi pa huli ang lahat,” said Angel.
Angel and Padilla previously worked together in projects such as “Asian Treasures” on GMA Network and also served as judges on “Pilipinas Got Talent” alongside Freddie M. Garcia (FMG) and Vice Ganda.
Following Angel’s post, Yiv Cortez, the brother of Viy Cortez, publicly thanked the actress and expressed hope that more people would become aware of the issues being discussed.
“Salamat Ms Angel Locsin. Magising na sana ang lahat,” she said.
Yiv also responded to critics who claimed Angel had remained silent on the alleged flood control scandal.
One basher commented, “Hahahah how about flood control issue? Wala siyang masabi? Iba talaga pag may pinapanigan kahit mali.”
Another added, “Pero narinig mo ba bumoboses yang si Angel Locsin about sa Flood Control Scandal?”
Yiv fired back by saying, “Anong tahimik sa flood control? Sino bang mga senador ang di pumirma sa partial flood control report para sana matuloy na?”
As of this writing, Sen. Robin Padilla has yet to issue any reaction, response, or statement regarding Angel Locsin’s public call-out.
