Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake in Occidental Mindoro, July 8, 2026
EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.7 magnitude quake in Occidental Mindoro, July 8, 2026. Here are the details.
Following the 4.1 magnitude quake that hit Sarangani yesterday, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. According to the agency, the quake recently hit Occidental Mindoro. It has a strong magnitude of 4.7.
The earthquake that struck Occidental Mindoro today, July 8, 2026, was tectonic in origin. A tectonic quake is a shaking which is a product when the Earth’s crust breaks because of the geological forces on the rocks and the adjoining plates which result to chemical and physical changes.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Occidental Mindoro was located at 13.72°North, 120.51°East – 028 km North 90° East of Looc. It had a depth of focus of 101 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording bureau, Intensity II was felt in Looc, Occidental Mindoro. The following instrumental intensities were recorded in these areas:
Intensity I
- Calatagan, Cuenca, and San Luis, BATANGAS
- Abra De Ilog, Mamburao, Sablayan, and San Jose, OCCIDENTAL MINDORO
Intensity II
- Looc, OCCIDENTAL MINDORO
- Calapan City and Puerto Galera, ORIENTAL MINDORO
