Online Cellphone Seller Expressed Frustration After Being Robbed by Fake Buyer
An online cellphone seller has expressed his frustration after he was robbed by a fake buyer in Barangay North Signal Village, Taguig City.
On July 1, 2026, a 23-year-old man was arrested after allegedly posing as a buyer and robbing an online cellphone seller. The incident was caught on video and later went viral online.
The victim, known as Dayoy, was supposed to meet a potential buyer for a cellphone transaction. He even planned to vlog the meetup as part of his online buy-and-sell activities. Accompanying him was his friend, Totoy, who carried a bag containing several mobile phones.
According to reports, the suspect first contacted Dayoy online and expressed interest in buying a cellphone. However, the man did not appear at their original meeting place. The group then agreed to transfer to another location near a church in the same barangay.
While waiting, Dayoy and his friend decided to eat at a nearby establishment. After a few moments, the supposed buyers suddenly arrived and confirmed that they were meeting the cellphone sellers.
As the victims prepared to show the available phones, the suspect unexpectedly declared a robbery.
A witness said there was a brief struggle before another man wearing a helmet grabbed the bag and pulled out a firearm. Shocked by the situation, the victims were unable to resist. The suspects escaped with four cellphones worth around P165,000 and P25,000 in cash.
Authorities arrested the main suspect early Saturday morning in Barangay South Signal Village. During the operation, police recovered a .45-caliber pistol, a grenade, and several rounds of ammunition.
Another individual later came to the Taguig Police Station and identified the suspect as one of the men who allegedly stole his motorcycle in Taytay, Rizal, on June 23. He recognized the suspect after seeing the viral video online.
