Tricycle Driver Sells Rice Harvest to Pay for Student Permit, Ends Up Losing P16,000

A tricycle driver in Zarraga, Iloilo sold his rice harvest to save enough money to pay for a student permit, but he did not receive anything after making the payment.

The tricycle driver identified only as Kano is seeking help after allegedly losing P16,000 that he paid in hopes of obtaining a student permit, only to discover months later that no application had ever been filed under his name.

According to him, a fellow resident known as Em-em offered to help him secure a student permit through contacts supposedly connected with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Jaro, Iloilo City.

Wanting to legally obtain a driver’s license, Kano trusted the offer and agreed to pay the amount being asked. He initially handed over P4,500 and later added another P6,000. As more money was reportedly requested, Kano decided to sell part of his rice harvest to raise additional funds.

In total, he paid P16,000, believing the process was moving forward and that he would soon receive his student permit.

However, weeks turned into months, and nothing was delivered. Despite repeated follow-ups, he reportedly received no permit and no clear explanation about the delay.

After nearly four months of waiting, Kano decided to personally check with the LTO office in Jaro. There, he was shocked to learn that there was no record of any student permit application under his name.

Eventually, the tricycle driver realized that the money he had paid may not have been used for any legitimate transaction.

Kano then tried to contact Em-em and the person who was said to have connections inside the LTO. However, both individuals could no longer be located.

Despite having only finished Grade 4, Kano said he simply wanted to earn an honest living and follow the proper process for obtaining a driver’s license. Instead, he now finds himself trying to recover the money he earned through hard work and sacrifice.
