Honest Airport Security Officers Earn Praise Online for Returning Lost Cellphone to Passenger
Several honest airport security officers safely returned a lost cellphone to a passenger at Caticlan Airport.
On June 29, 2026, Security Screening Officer Rodney Cahilig noticed a smartphone that had been left behind in one of the airport service trays during routine screening operations. Realizing that the item might belong to a passenger who had already moved on, he immediately reported the discovery to checkpoint supervisor Security Screening Officer Jane Rario.
The supervisor used the airportās paging system to announce the discovery of the cellphone and help locate its owner. Airport staff worked together to ensure that the device would be returned safely and would not fall into the wrong hands.

A few minutes later, a passenger bound for Manila on Cebu Pacific Flight 5J898 approached airport personnel to report a missing cellphone. The passenger had apparently left the device behind while passing through the security checkpoint and only realized it was missing afterward.
Airport authorities conducted the necessary verification process to confirm ownership of the smartphone. Once it was established that the passenger was the rightful owner, the cellphone was immediately handed back.
The passengers expressed gratitude to the airport security officers for their honesty, professionalism, and swift response.
