Following the incident, Senator Robin Padilla pushed for lowering the criminal liability to 10 years old, citing other nations that also do this. The Philippine National Police also backed this proposal to the age of 12 due to the fact that more young Filipinos are now being involved in crimes.

“The PNP is supporting the lowering of the age of criminal liability. We are thinking, 12 years old,” PNP spokesperson Col. Allen Rae Co said. In the Philippines, 15 is the minimum age of criminal liability. This means that those who are 15 years and 1 day above “with discernment” can be subjected to appropriate court proceedings.

One of the guns used was a 9mm Glock 17 used by the 14-year-old suspect, identified as alias “Nash.”

A policewoman who owns this firearm is the aunt of the said suspect. Co shared that this officer is now under restrictive custody and “undergoing pre-charge investigation.” She will also be facing summary dismissal proceedings.

The other firearm is a caliber .38 revolver sed by a 15-year-old suspect named alias “Rod,” which is owned by a security agency based in Cebu City. The PNP is still investigating how the suspects obtained the firearms.

Moreover, the authorities have found a total of 48 pieces of evidence from the scene, including fired cartridge cases (21), lead fragments of fired bullets (7), cartridges (13), deformed fired bullets (2), fired bullets (3), an empty magazine (1), and a misfired cartridge (1).
