Some Iloilo City Hall Employees Reminded to Take Earthquake Drills More Seriously

Several department heads at Iloilo City Hall observed that some employees were not taking the earthquake drill seriously.

Recently, the Facebook page K5 News FM Iloilo 88.7 reported that a number of employees appeared to treat the drill lightly instead of following the proper safety procedures expected during emergency preparedness exercises, according to the observations made during the activity.

On Thursday (June 18, 2026), an earthquake drill conducted at Iloilo City Hall shows the importance of being fully prepared for emergencies after some employees were observed not taking the activity seriously.

The drill was part of the nationwide effort to strengthen disaster preparedness and ensure that government workers know what to do during a real earthquake. Employees from different offices participated in the exercise, which included practicing safety procedures and evacuating to designated safe areas.

According to officials overseeing the activity, some employees immediately headed downstairs as soon as the siren sounded instead of following the proper safety protocol. Others were also seen failing to protect their heads while moving to safety.

These actions raised concerns among several department heads who were monitoring the exercise.

Officials explained that one of the biggest challenges is changing the mindset of some workers who view earthquake drills as routine activities rather than important preparations for real emergencies.

While drills may seem repetitive, they are designed to help people react quickly and correctly when an actual disaster occurs.

Disaster preparedness officers emphasized that every drill should be treated seriously because earthquakes can happen without warning. The knowledge and habits developed during these exercises can help save lives and reduce injuries during a real emergency situation.

Despite the observations, many employees actively participated in the drill and followed the recommended procedures. Workers practiced the standard safety response of taking cover, protecting themselves, and moving in an orderly manner to evacuation areas once it was safe to do so.
