Here are the new committee assignments as Sherwin Gatchalian got elected as the Senate president.
Under the leadership of Sherwin Gatchalian as the new Senate president, here are the confirmed committee assignments and new ones made.
Senator Win Gatchalian was elected Senate president during a special session on Wednesday, June 17, formalizing a leadership change that had been anticipated for weeks. 13 senators were present during the special session, and all of them voted for Gatchalian to sit as the new Senate president.
An hour prior to this, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano announced that he was withdrawing his bid for the Senate presidency after Joel Villanueva informed him of his decision to back Gatchalian. None of the other members of Cayetano’s bloc attended the morning session.
Gatchalian’s election as Senate president also triggered a reshuffle of committee leadership in the chamber, including the influential Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, the Senate’s main body for conducting investigations. On Wednesday, the 13-member majority bloc confirmed several committee assignments and approved new appointments.
