Cebu Pacific Drew Flak Online for Now Allowing Passengers to Hand-Carry Violins
Cebu Pacific elicits negative reactions after some passengers were reportedly not allowed to bring their violins as hand-carry items.
Recently, Rona De Leon, a Facebook user, shared her disappointment after Cebu Pacific allegedly prevented some passengers from bringing their violins as hand luggage. The post quickly went viral and gained various reactions online.
According to De Leon, members of an orchestra were stopped by airport security before boarding and were informed that their violins could not be carried into the aircraft in the usual manner.
The group was allegedly instructed to check in the violin cases instead and bring only the instruments and bows inside the cabin.
The situation surprised the musicians because they had previously traveled with the same airline several times without encountering any problems. For them, carrying violins inside the cabin is important because of the instruments’ value and delicate condition.
Many musicians prefer to keep their instruments close to them during flights to reduce the risk of damage that may occur when baggage is placed in the cargo hold.
Many internet users shared their opinions. Some sided with the musicians, saying that valuable instruments require special handling and should be allowed in the cabin whenever possible. Others pointed out that airlines may have policies regarding baggage size, weight limits, and safety requirements that passengers must follow.
Several netizens suggested that airlines provide more detailed information to help musicians prepare before traveling.
The orchestra reportedly expressed its intention to explore other airline options for future trips because of the experience.

“Cebu Pacific did not allow violins as carry-on and wanted us to check them in, which of course is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Our ochestra has travelled multiple times via CebPac and this has never been an issue. We were always allowed to carry them into the aircraft. This is the first time we were held up at the gates by security. Their solution- check in the case, and bring just the instrument and the bow in the aircraft.
CebPac has just lost a client. The MSO is not gonna fly CebPac anymore.”
