3-Year-Old Child After House Fire in Cebu
A three-year-old child allegedly playing a lighter has passed away after their house was engulfed in flames in Argao, Cebu.
A tragic fire claimed the life of a three-year-old child after a house was engulfed in flames in Argao, Cebu, on Wednesday morning.
According to local authorities, the incident happened in Sitio Sibuyan, Barangay Upper Canjue in Argao, Cebu, on Wednesday morning (June 17, 2026). Initial findings from the investigation suggest that the young child had been left inside the house and was allegedly playing with a lighter before the fire broke out.

Police said the flames spread rapidly throughout the small home, leaving little time for anyone to react. The child became trapped inside as the fire quickly consumed parts of the structure.
Residents in the area immediately noticed the fire and sought help from emergency responders. Firefighters rushed to the scene and worked to control the flames as quickly as possible. However, despite their efforts, they were unable to reach the child in time.
The victim was found inside the house after firefighters gained control of the fire. Sadly, the child had already died before rescue teams could carry out a successful rescue operation.

Authorities said it took nearly an hour before the fire was fully extinguished. While the house suffered damage, officials estimated the financial loss at around P10,000. Even though the amount was relatively small compared to larger fire incidents, the emotional loss suffered by the family was far greater.
Police and fire investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine the exact cause of the fire.
