Bongbong Marcos Rushes to Sarangani After Deadly Mindanao Earthquake
BONGBONG MARCOS – In the wake of the powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake, PBBM visited affected communities to provide assistance and comfort to survivors.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. personally visited the province of Sarangani following the devastating magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck several areas in Mindanao, bringing aid and support to affected communities.
The powerful earthquake shook various provinces across Mindanao on Monday, June 8, leaving widespread destruction and claiming dozens of lives. In response to the disaster, President Marcos traveled to some of the hardest-hit areas to assess the situation firsthand and extend assistance to residents struggling to recover from the tragedy.
According to a report from the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) released on Monday, June 15, the President met with families affected by the earthquake and checked on their condition. His visit aimed to reassure survivors that the national government remains committed to helping them rebuild their communities.
The PCO also reported that President Marcos provided ₱20 million in Socio-Civic Project Fund (SCPF) assistance to support relief and rehabilitation efforts in the province. In addition, a Starlink unit was turned over to improve communication capabilities in the area, particularly during emergencies when reliable connectivity is crucial.
Aside from meeting residents, the President visited the Sarangani Provincial Hospital to inspect the condition of the facility and personally check on patients receiving treatment. The visit underscored the government’s focus on ensuring that healthcare services remain available despite the damage caused by the earthquake.
President Marcos also led the distribution of two Patient Transport Vehicles (PTVs) for the province of Sarangani. These vehicles are expected to strengthen the province’s medical services and improve access to healthcare for residents, especially in remote areas.
Meanwhile, the latest report from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) showed that the death toll from the earthquake has reached 65.
Following his visit to the earthquake-affected areas, President Marcos is scheduled to fly to Russia from June 17 to 18 to attend a commemorative summit between the country and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). A bilateral meeting between President Marcos and Russian President Vladimir Putin is also expected to take place during the visit.
