Risa Hontiveros expressed readiness to help the victims of the recent earthquake
Senator Risa Hontiveros announced in her recent Facebook post that she and the “New Senate Majority Bloc’ are ready to donate their 1-month salary to the victims of the recent earthquake in Mindanao.
On Monday morning, June 8, 2026, news broke out stating that a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit many areas in Mindanao, particularly Maasim, Sarangani, and Soccsksargen.
The strong quake destroyed houses, establishments, schools, and other infrastructures.

In a Facebook post on June 9, Tuesday, Sen. Risa Hontiveros expressed, “LET THE WHOLE SENATE STAND WITH MINDANAO.” “The Senate New Majority stands with the families and communities in Mindanao who are now facing the painful work of rescue, relief, rebuilding, and recovery after the powerful earthquake,” she wrote in the caption of her post.
She said that they are willing to help; she and her allies in the Senate will donate their salary.
“As a personal contribution to the relief effort, members of the Senate New Majority are prepared to donate one month of our salary to help support affected communities,” the female senator said.

Even though this kind of effort might just be a small contribution, Hontiveros said that she is hoping that senators from the Minority Bloc would also donate.
“After all, we are senators of all Filipino people. This is a moment when the Senate, whatever its internal divisions, can still speak through one act of shared compassion,” the lawmaker said.
The members of the “New Senate Majority Bloc” are Win Gatchalian, Vicente Tito Sotto, Ping Lacson, Erwin Tulfo, Raffy Tulfo, Kiko Pangilinam, Lito Lapid, Bam Aquino, JV Ejercito, Chiz Escudero, and Migz Zubiri.
Based on the site BetterGov.ph, the senators are already in Salary Grade 31, which is worth P334,059.
