2 Nursing Students Earn Praise Online for Helping Jeepney Driver Suffering from Heat Stroke
Two nursing students chose to be absent from their exam review to help save a jeepney driver who allegedly suffered heat stroke.
Two nursing students are being praised online after they chose to stop their exam review and help save a jeepney driver who was believed to have suffered heat stroke while driving in Bocaue, Bulacan.
The students, Precious Jewel Pescador and Joana Mae Barquilla, are first-year nursing students from Dr. Yanga’s Colleges Inc. They were traveling along MacArthur Highway when they noticed something was wrong with a jeepney driver operating a Sta. Maria via Monumento route.
The driver appeared weak and was having difficulty breathing, which raised immediate concern. Precious was on her way early that day to prepare for their final examination review.
However, instead of continuing her plan, she and her classmate quickly decided to act when they saw the driver’s condition worsening. With their basic knowledge in emergency care, they checked the driver’s vital signs and provided first aid to help stabilize him while waiting for medical assistance.
Emergency responders arrived after about twenty minutes, but the situation required urgent attention, so the two students stayed with the driver and even accompanied him to the nearest hospital to make sure he was safe and properly cared for.

Despite the pressure of their upcoming final exams, the two did not hesitate to prioritize the life of a stranger over their own academic concerns. The jeepney driver is now in stable condition and recovering well, according to reports shared by their school.
Dr. Yanga’s Colleges Inc. later praised the students in a viral post, saying their actions went beyond passing an exam and showed true compassion and readiness as future healthcare workers.
