Former Sen. Antonio Trillanes Speaks Anew on Naga Mayor Leni Robredo
TRILLANES – The former Senator claimed that Naga Mayor Leni Robredo should endorse either Senator Bam Aquino or Sen. Risa Hontiveros if she’s not running for president in 2028.
Former Vice President and now Naga Mayor Leni Robredo recently announced that she is not running for a national post in 2028. According to the former Vice President, it is already far from her horizon now to return to the national level of governance.
Robredo also admitted that she is planning of seeking another term as mayor of Naga. According to her, the 3-year term she currently has is very short for all the work that she needs to do.
The remarks of former Vice President and now Naga Mayor Leni Robredo came after former Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV urged that she must be definitive in her stand. According to the former Senator, the alleged “nonchalant” stance of the former Vice President supposedly weakens the posture of the opposition.
Furthermore, former Sen. Trillanes also claimed that Naga Mayor Robredo is allegedly not realizing the threat of another Duterte presidency. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has previously announced that she is running for the presidency in 2028.
“But if she’s going to rule out any scenario that she’ll run in 2028, she has to be definitive because (Senators) Bam (Aquino) and Risa (Hontiveros) will not grow. She will have to be definitive and the fact that she isn’t definitive leads me to conclude that she is really interested,” the former Senator said.
Recently, after former Vice President and now Naga Mayor Leni Robredo announced that she is not running for the presidency in 2028, former Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV expressed his belief that Robredo should endorse either Sen. Bam Aquino or Sen. Risa Hontiveros. According to him, it will transfer the support.
“Mas maganda nito, ang gawin ni Mayor Leni, kung ayaw na niya tumakbo, i-endorse na niya either si Senator Bam o si Senator Risa para talagang malipat sa kanila iyong suporta,” Trillanes said based on a report on GMA News.
According to the former Senator, with regards to the Magdalo Group, they have allegedly decided to back the presidential bid of Sen. Risa Hontiveros. Based on the report, he made the statement at the sidelines of the House impeachment proceedings.
Following her remarks that she will not return to the national government, former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo named the individuals whom she believes are potential leaders.
