Giant 100-Kilo Lapu-Lapu Caught in Jolo, SuluÂ
A fisherman made an impressive catch after hauling in a giant fish weighing around 100 kilos in Jolo, Sulu.
The giant fish, believed to be a lapu-lapu or grouper, quickly caught the attention of many people in the area. The catch happened in Barangay Walled City, where the fisherman, a member of the Badjao community, managed to reel in the unusually large fish.
According to those who spoke with him, he used a large hook along with a strong nylon fishing line, reportedly size 500, to secure the catch. His simple yet effective method proved successful, resulting in what many consider a rare and lucky moment.

When the fish was brought to the local fish port, it immediately drew a crowd. People gathered around, amazed by its size and weight. Large groupers like this are not commonly seen, making the catch even more special for both the fisherman and the community.
The fish was not officially weighed using a scale beyond 100 kilos, as the buyer’s weighing equipment could only handle up to that limit. Because of this, both parties agreed to estimate its weight at 100 kilos.
They also settled on a price of 100 pesos per kilo, making the total value of the catch quite huge.

Plans were made to send the fish to Zamboanga City, where it can be weighed more accurately and prepared for further sale or distribution.
For the fisherman, this catch is seen as a jackpot, especially since fish of this size are becoming increasingly rare. It also shows the skill and patience of local fishermen who rely on traditional methods to make a living from the sea.
