Palace Press Officer Atty. Claire Castro revealed that she has received information that a country is paying trolls to harm the interests of the Philippines.
With the age of the internet, the term “trolls” gained a new meaning. In the online community or social media, this refers to a group of people hired by certain entities to destroy a person, a group, a company, or even the government.
In a recent statement, based on the article in Abante News, Undersecretary of the Presidential Communications Office Claire Castro, there is a certiain country that is trying to destroy the reputation of the Philippines.
“May balita, may nagbabayad na ibang bansa para bayaran itong mga trolls. At itong mga trolls para sirain ‘yung interes natin. So ‘yun ‘yung mahirap. Meron tayong mga kababayan na nabibili tapos binebenta ‘yung sariling integridad ng bansa natin,” she said.
Castro made the statement in the first episode of the podcast by Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea Jay Tarriela.
According to Castro, she believes that the West Philippine Sea issue should be a “unifying issue” for Filipinos, but there are forces that are causing public opinion to be divided.
She cited Nikko Balbedina’s study, which said that there are “Chinese-linked networks” that are “undermining the President, and the government, especially in relation to the issue of the WPS, and that they are raising a Manchurian candidate.”
