Female Athlete Rushed to Hospital After Being Bitten by Snake

A female athlete from Koronadal City was rushed to the hospital after being bitten by a snake before SRAA Meet 2026. 

On early Monday morning (April 6, 2026), the young athlete who competes in the secondary girls taekwondo category, was with her teammates preparing for practice when she was bitten by a snake inside their billeting quarter at President Quirino National High School in Sultan Kudarat.  

According to teachers, the athlete was reaching into her bag to get her belongings when a small cobra suddenly appeared and bit her on the hand. The moment caused panic inside the room as others rushed to help her.

She was immediately brought to a private hospital in Koronadal using a standby ambulance. Medical staff quickly provided treatment to address the effects of the snake bite. Thanks to the fast response, her condition improved. 

As of this writing, the athlete is in stable condition but remains under close observation to ensure her full recovery. Her teammates and coaches continue to support her as she rests and regains strength. 

Koronadal City Mayor Erlinda Pabi-Araquil assured that the local government will cover all her medical expenses, easing the burden on the athlete and her family during this time.

The SRAA Meet 2026, also known as the Regional Meet 12, gathers participants from South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and Cotabato, along with cities such as Koronadal, Kidapawan, Tacurong, and General Santos. 

The incident raised concerns about safety in billeting areas, especially during large events. Organizers are expected to review measures to prevent similar situations and ensure the well-being of all participants.
