Woman Expresses Dismay After Being Scammed for Buying “Trash iPad” Online

A woman was scammed while trying to buy an iPad that was advertised online as coming from “recovered trash” for only P1,000.

The victim saw a post from a vlogger claiming to sell items supposedly recovered from waste. The online advertisement promised the products were genuine, and the vlogger even offered to ship the items for a small fee.

Believing the offer was real, the woman placed an order for an iPad, hoping it could help her child with schoolwork. When the parcel finally arrived, the iPad inside was damaged and unusable.

Instead of a working device, the victim received a broken product that could not be repaired. The money she had saved from selling compost soil to support her home project was now gone. The iPad, which she trusted to be useful, ended up being worthless.

Even the delivery person reportedly suspected something was wrong with the package, but the box was opened immediately, revealing the scam. The woman’s experience reminds how online scams can target even those who are careful and trusting.

The victim urges the public not to easily trust flashy posts or low-priced items on social media, especially when they seem “too good to be true.” Scammers often use convincing advertisements, familiar brands, and vlogger endorsements to lure buyers into paying money for items that do not exist or are completely defective.

Online shopping is convenient, but it also carries risks. Checking reviews, confirming the seller’s credibility, and avoiding deals that appear suspicious can help prevent scams. Being cautious and informed is important so that no one else falls victim to similar schemes.
