Elderly Man Dies After Being Hit by Truck in Antipolo City
An elderly man who has just attended church lost his life after being struck by a runaway truck in Barangay Mayamot, Antipolo City, Rizal.
On Sunday afternoon, March 15, 2026, a 76-year-old man lost his after being hit by a truck along Marcos Highway. The elderly victim was simply walking along the sidewalk and heading home when the tragic accident happened shortly after 5 p.m.
CCTV footage from a nearby auto detailing shop captured the moments before the crash. In the video, several vehicles were seen passing by the road normally. After a few moments, a truck suddenly rushed downhill and slammed into the gate of the establishment.
Another camera inside a studio within the shop showed the people inside becoming startled and shocked as the truck crashed into the property. The sudden incident caused panic among those who were inside the building.
Unfortunately, the elderly man was hit by the truck before it finally crashed. He suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot due to the impact.
Aside from the victim, the truck also struck two parked motorcycles and damaged two nearby buildings before finally coming to a stop.
“Nagulat na lang ako na pinuntahan ako ng mga kaibigan ko, nabangga raw. Wala akong masabi kasi hindi rin niya kagustuhan ang nangyari. Ang sa amin, tulungan na lang kami kasi biglaan,” the victim’s wife said.
Based on the investigation conducted by Antipolo police, the truck driver had earlier pulled over to the side of the road after noticing that the vehicle’s brakes were weak. While they were checking the truck, the helper removed the wheel block that had been placed to prevent the vehicle from moving.
Without the support of the block and with the brakes failing, the truck suddenly rolled downhill and the driver was unable to stop it.
The truck driver suffered minor wounds from the incident. Authorities said no case was filed after he promised to shoulder the damages to the properties involved and also help support the family left behind by the victim.
